Compilação de históricas animações. Num panorama que abrange mais de cinquenta anos de evolução do gênero, desde os cartoons de Winson McCay, nos anos 1910, até a vanguardista escola do este europeu, dos anos 60, representada por Jiri Trnka e Jan Svankmajer.
Apresentando variadas técnicas (cartoon, stop-motion, desenho na película) de animadores como: o americano David Fleischer com seus cartoons; a alemã Lotte Reiniger com animações de recortes baseadas no milenar teatro das "sombras chinesas"; o russo Ladislaw Starewicz e sua técnica de stop-motion; o canadense experimental Morman McLaren no estilo revolucionário de rabiscar na própria película; o recém descoberto Charles Bowers e suas surrealistas animações; e o mundo de George Pal e Ray Harryhausen, mestres também da técnica de stop-motion; Ub Iwerks, simplesmente o criador de Mickey e a dupla Hugh Harman & Rudolf Ising, outros dois importantes animadores na história da Disney e responsáveis pelos primeiros trabalhos da Looney Tunes e Merrie Melodies.
